Authentic Georgian Dining on the Upper East Side

Saperavi NYC brings the unmatched culinary traditions of the country of Georgia right to the heart of Yorkville and the Upper East Side. Unlike our intimate companion bistro in the East Village, our 2nd Ave restaurant boasts an expansive, full-size dining room layout designed to accommodate celebratory neighborhood gatherings, family feasts, and romantic date nights alike.

Whether you are planning a post-museum lunch after touring the nearby Metropolitan Museum of Art and Guggenheim along Museum Mile, or wrapping up an afternoon stroll through Central Park, our kitchen provides a warm, welcoming sanctuary. We feature a state-of-the-art clay oven baking hot, pulling cheese-filled Adjarian Khachapuri fresh to order, alongside traditional main courses perfectly suited to pair with our historic, skin-contact orange and bold red Georgian wines.

Upper East Side Dining FAQs

Can you accommodate large group parties or private dining?

Yes, our Upper East Side location features an expansive, multi-room dining configuration uniquely optimized for hosting large corporate events, private family parties, and traditional multi-course Georgian Supra feasts. Please utilize our Catering & Events Form to lock in your custom group reservations.

How close is Saperavi UES to NYC transit links?

Saperavi Upper East Side is highly accessible via public transit, located just a 3-minute walk from the 86th St Subways station servicing the Q train, as well as the 4, 5, and 6 express/local lines. Additionally, the M86-SBS cross-town bus drops off steps away from our front entrance on 2nd Ave.

What is Georgian cuisine, and how is it different from Russian or Mediterranean food?

Georgian food comes from the country of Georgia in the Caucasus, and its signature is the combination of walnut, garlic, fresh herbs and spices such as blue fenugreek and marigold. Unlike Russian cooking, it leans heavily on ground-walnut sauces and sour-fruit seasoning; unlike Mediterranean cooking, it is built around clay-oven cheese breads, filled dumplings and slow-simmered clay-pot stews. Georgia is also the world’s oldest wine culture, with roughly 8,000 years of continuous winemaking.

Do you have vegetarian and vegan dishes on the Upper East Side?

Yes, and more than most guests expect — a large share of the Georgian table is naturally meat-free. Ajapsandali (eggplant, tomato and bell pepper), Assorted Pkhali, Lobio bean stew, Rustic Eggplant Salad, our house-pickled vegetables and the chargrilled seasonal vegetables all come without meat. Vegetarians who eat dairy should look at Pkhlovana, the spinach-and-cheese khachapuri, or the Potato Mushroom Ojakhuri. Tell your server you are eating vegan and they will point you to the plates made without dairy.

Do you serve Georgian wine, and can the staff recommend a pairing?

Yes — our list is built around Georgian bottles, including the deep red Saperavi our restaurant is named for and skin-contact amber whites such as Rkatsiteli. Many are fermented in qvevri, the buried clay vessels Georgians have used for thousands of years. Ask your server for a pairing — our team is used to walking guests through amber wine for the first time.

Is Saperavi a good stop before or after visiting Museum Mile?

Yes. We are on 2nd Avenue at 89th Street, a short walk east of the Museum Mile stretch of Fifth Avenue and Central Park, and we are open daily from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM. That covers a late lunch between galleries as well as a full dinner afterward, and happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
